I have been brainstorming for a while now for new posts and I came up with the idea to start a new series..#ThrowbackThursday!!!
When I was in high school I participated in this great program called After School Matters, you basically get paid to stay after school and have fun. Sign me up! So my sophomore yr of high school, as part of this program; I participated in a Poetry workshop. I believe it was in this program that I discovered I had a gift for creative writing. Thanks Chicago Public Schools!!
Now, because I’m a little bit of a hoarder, I still have that composition book, of course. So every #ThrowbackThursday I’m going to post a poem from that workshop. And today, in honor of #DomesticViolenceAwareness month I’m going to share with you all a piece titled: “Once Again”
He’s hit me,Once again/
My eye is swollen,once again/
Momma said get rid of you/
She said without you, I can do/
She said there’s no need for me to cry/
That I should just say bye/
But how can I say goodbye?/
Saying that it wouldn’t hurt would be a lie/
Yet your hits have hurt me too/
Sometimes, even my face turned blue/
I don’t want to, but I have to/
I don’t want to, but I will/
I think you take it as thrill/
I believe you enjoy scaring me still/
When I got with you, I thought I was free from hurt/
Instead, you’ve treated me like dirt/
I did everything for you/
And in return, you found another boo/
All those sweet kisses and hugs/
Just a trick to steal my love/
I refuse to let you once again lie/
When I do, that will be the day I die.
